DraftKids is a sports news and learning site for kids ages 8 to 14. We collect as little as possible. Here's exactly what we keep, in plain language.

The short version

  • No ads. No advertising, no ad networks.
  • No tracking. No analytics cookies, no tracking pixels, no selling or sharing data.
  • No kid accounts. Kids never type their name, email or any personal info.
  • No betting. We filter out gambling and sportsbook content.

1. Leaderboard nicknames and scores (anonymous)

Kids can add a game score to a weekly leaderboard. They don't type a name. They build a nickname from our word lists, like "Rocket Tiger 42". We store only:

  • the nickname,
  • the game, the age level (8โ€“10, 11โ€“12 or 13โ€“14) and the week,
  • the score and the time it was posted.

Leaderboards reset every Monday. We delete old weekly boards after about 8 weeks.

Spam protection: to stop people flooding the leaderboard or the signup form, our server briefly counts requests using a scrambled (hashed) version of the visitor's internet address. We never store the address itself, and these counters are deleted within about an hour.

2. Parent emails

Parents and guardians (18 or older) can sign up for a weekly DraftKids email. We store:

  • the email address,
  • whether it's waiting for confirmation, confirmed or unsubscribed,
  • the dates it signed up, confirmed or unsubscribed,
  • that the person checked "I'm a parent or guardian, 18 or older".

We use double opt-in: we send a confirmation email first, and only confirmed addresses get the weekly email. Every email has an unsubscribe link. We use an email delivery service to send these messages; it processes the address only to deliver our email. We never sell or share email addresses, and we don't put tracking pixels in our emails.

Please don't let kids sign up. The form is for parents and guardians only.

3. Data saved only on your device

Some things are saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them. They stay on your device and are never sent to us, except the nickname and score when your child chooses to post a score:

  • the chosen age level,
  • the leaderboard nickname,
  • best scores for games and quizzes,
  • poll picks and sound on/off.

To erase them, clear this site's data in your browser settings.

4. News stories and links

DraftKids shows headlines and pictures from public sports news feeds and links to the original stories. When you click a link, you go to that site, and its privacy policy applies there.

5. Hosting

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes basic technical information (such as internet addresses) to deliver pages and protect against attacks. We don't add tracking on top of that.

6. Children's privacy

We designed DraftKids so kids don't share personal information. Leaderboard nicknames come only from preset words, and the email signup is for adults. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

7. Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from the parent email with the link in any email.
  • Ask us to delete your email address or a leaderboard entry by contacting us.

8. Contact

Questions or requests: [contact email]

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
